Designing buildings on cloud – How cloud computing is disrupting BIM collaboration
Establishing a collaborative practice is of particular importance to building design and construction projects, as they involve bringing together a large number of diverse disciplines, many of whom might not have worked together before. They also involve coordination and integration of a great deal of complex information, procedures, and systems.
And often the failure to not establish clear and efficient project-wide collaborative practices results in poor, sub-optimal execution, project over-runs, delays and cost escalations.
With project structures having evolved from the earlier ‘linear’ ecosystem of client-consultant-contractor relationship to a more integrated mesh of multi-variate players involving complex financing arrangements, early engagement of the supply chain and the introduction of sub-contractor and supplier design, it behooves that clear collaborative practices be identified, implemented, analyzed for effectiveness, and improved upon, where needed.
